The good talk

FH Mentor offer the good talk, where you are seen and heard.

Here is a short description of the good talk - what it builds on and comprises:

FH Mentor's role

FH Mentor's role in the talk is mainly to:

  • Establish a positive contact - create comfort and trust
  • Listen with complete presence - be engaged, empatic supportive, with open questions

  • Contribute to a positive development - enable own reflection and awareness, in order to find inner resources and possibilities, provide relevant techniques

Basic assumptions

The talk is based on these basic assumptions:

  • Challenges are normal
  • Challenges and adversity are part of life. Some will say this is the meaning of life. Nevertheless, challenges represent a possibility to reflect over direction and purpose in life and to grow as a human being. This assumes that the challenges are handled in a constructive way, so that they no longer block or paralyze us

  • Talking to others is very often positive

  • Talking to others about our challenges often holds a liberating power. This also contributes to more clarity. And in addition, others' view on the issue may enable us to see things differently. It can give us support to find resources and possibilities we did not realize that we had

  • This assumes that the talk gives you the feeling of being seen and heard as you are, as a complete human being, where everything (body, thoughts, feelings) is linked together

  • Get support for change

  • Understand that change is necessary in order to get beyond your challenges and develop as a human being. Be aware of what should be changed. Not use energy on trying to change what can not be changed and accept that this is part of challenges in life

  • Understand that change very often starts with yourself. Reflect on how to see challenges in a different way and to make changes so that the challenges no longer are negative. Learn techniques for change; this is often an interaction between our mental and physical sides

The progress

The progress of the talk is often:

  1. Description - of challenge(s)
  2. Set goals - what do I want to achieve/become

  3. Change - what must be changed in order for me to reach my goal(s), make a realistic plan for change, techniques

Areas for change

Every talk is unique. Neverheless, some areas for change are more frequent in the talks:

  • Becoming more aware of own behaviour and thoughts
  • Getting a better understanding of questions such as: How do I think about myself and others?Do I think too much? Are my thoughts in the past or future, or in the present here and now? What is my basic view on life? And what kind of signals do I send to the world around me?

  • Getting a better balance in life

  • Finding the right balance in important areas in life, for example between acitivity/rest, outward/inward, externally/internally driven, sound/quiet, offensive/defensive, action/being still, serious/fun, outside/inside, analogue/digital etc. Yin/yang

  • Controlling own thoughts

  • Understanding that the power of our mind is huge and affects us a lot. And that we can control it. This represents great opportunities for a better life and may also be the basis for change. This might be issues like: getting a more positive attitude towards myself and others, accepting life as it is now, to a larger extent seeing the values of the smaller things in life and being more present now

  • Being in contact with own (real) wishes

  • Getting more awareness in questions such as: What do I really prefer? What am I good at? What makes me excel? How can I become an even better human being, both for myself and others? How can I find more meaning to what I do? What is my role and place?

  • The 3:5 day

  • Diet, sleep, presence; physical activity, with others, with myself, for others, learn new things

  • A guide to what we should do better or have more of in our life
